Pennsylvania Mountains Healthcare Resource Development (PMHRD), a subsidiary of PMHA, is a not-for-profit organization under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Through PMHRD, the PMHA member hospitals can collaboratively take on projects and seek grant funding as a means of financing their initiatives. Prior to the formation of PMHRD, if a grant stipulated that an applicant be of 501 (c)(3) status, member hospitals had to serve in this capacity. This required a lot of time and energy on behalf of the member hospitals; hence, the primary reason for the establishment of PMHRD.
The specific purpose of PMHRD is to enhance the ability of rural community hospitals to provide patient centered community-based care through:
- collaboration on projects to improve community health that one hospital could not undertake on its own;
- leveraging resources of rural community hospitals to achieve cost efficiencies; and
- serving as a clearinghouse for information and technical support for rural community hospitals.
